Kris Vanhaecht & Massimiiano Panella Joint Chairmen of the European Pathway Association

Kris Vanhaecht (RN, MSc, PhD Cand) works as research fellow at the Center for Health Services and Nursing Research, Catholic University Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. Kris is involved in pathway research since 1997. He is co-manager of the Smartgroup on Clinical Pathways and is chairman of the scientific committee of the Integrated Care Pathway Conference.

Massimiliano Panella (MD, PhD) is professor in Public Health at the Università del Piedmonte Orientale, Amadeo Avogadro, Novarra, Italy. Massimiliano has performed multi center randomised trials on clinical pathways. He is a frequent international speaker on the concept of clinical/care pathways. Next to his academic career he is chief medical officer of 3 hospitals in the Piedmonte region.

Marcus Bollmann (MBA) works as a chief executive officer (CEO) at the German SANA Hospital Trust, Munich, Germany. Next to his vocational career he is visiting professor at the University of Steyr, Steyr, Austria. He is lecturing process-management in healthcare (Six Sigma) and clinical pathways (CaseMap-System). Besides of that Marcus is organizing the “Deutscher Verein für klinische Pfade“, Starnberg, Germany (German Society for Clinical Pathways).

Jen Guezo EPA board member from Guernsey

Jen Guezo (RN, BSc(Hons) works as quality lialson for the Health and Social Services Department, Guernsey in the Channel Isles. She has been the organisation lead on care pathways since 2001. Jen is founder and manager of the SmartGroup on Clinical Pathways, the official discussion forum of the European Pathway Assocation, which has over 750 members worldwide.

Uwe Janssen is general practitioner in Denmark. Uwe has experience in pathways and accreditation projects.

Clare Gallagher Patient Representative in the EPA board

Clare Gallagher is the Patient representative on the EPA board. Clare is Vice Chair of the Patient Forum at Ashford & St Peters NHS Trust and External Consultant for Patient Concern. Clare is is Programme Director at Healthcare Events where she has been working on the annual ICP conference for the past seven years. Clare has also recently been advising the environments committee at the UK Postgraduate Medical Education & Training Board (PMETB)

Marie Kehoe EPA board member from Ireland

Marie Kehoe (RN) is president of the Irish Society for Quality and Safety in Healthcare.
During the last ten years of her time in America, Marie worked as a Quality Assurance Coordinator for the Medicaid Programme in Illinois. Marie returned to Ireland in 2002 as the Quality Assurance Coordinator for Kerry General Hospital where she developed and implemented a quality assurance programme at the hospital.

Karen Jenkins EPA board member from Scotland

Karen Jenkins (PhD) works as a Clinical Effectiveness Integrated Care Pathways Co-ordinator for Greater Glasgow Primary Care Division, Scotland, UK. Karen has been involved in pathways since 1998. She has a lead role in the core group of Integrated Care Pathways Users in Scotland.

Walter Sermeus EPA board member from Belgium

Walter Sermeus (RN, MSc, PhD) is professor in patient care management, research methods and statistics at the Center for Health Services Research, Catholic University Leuven, Belgium. Walter is director of the Belgian Dutch Clinical Pathway Network. Next to his work on pathways he is involved in research on minimum datasets, patient classification systems, nursing informatics and hospital finance systems.

Ruben Van Zelm EPA board member from The Netherlands

Ruben Van Zelm (RN, MSc) is senior advisor at the Dutch Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Utrecht, The Netherlands. Ruben is the coordinator for the Dutch part of the Belgian-Dutch Clinical Pathway Network. He is also involved in the development and dissemination of national, evidence based guidelines on different clinical topics, including prevention of accidental falls, prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins.

Claire Whittle EPA board member from England

Claire Whittle (RN, MSc, PhD Cand) works at the School of Health Sciences at Birmingham University. Claire has a nursing background with specialisation in intensive care. Nowadays she is preparing her PhD on the Appriasal of Care Pathways and is working on palliative care. Claire is highly involved in the Protocal & Care Pathway database of the National Electronic Library for Health.

Anne-Marie Yazbeck (BA, MScBA) worked as a project manager and advisor at
the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of quality of care (quality improvement, patient safety...) and health sector development (DRG, introducing new reimbursement methods...). She was involved in the implementation and development clinical pathway and guidelines on the national level. She was also involved in various working groups (Diabetes, Long-term Care, HTA, Patient Safety, e-Health...) on the
national and EU levels. Later, she moved to Copenhagen and worked there for the WHO but remains closely related to the developments on care pathways in Slovenia. At this moment Anne Marie is senior researcher for "Health Consumer Powerhouse".
